Preservation/Heritage Events of Note – March 12 and 13

Film Screening and Lecture at the Henry Art Gallery (Friday, March 12, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm)

“Saving Our Heritage, the Irish Georgian Society.” Learn about efforts to conserve heritage across the Atlantic. Spend an evening with Rt. Hon. Desmond Guinness, Irish author on Georgian art and architecture and a conservationist, and president of the Irish Georgian Society. Mr. Guinness will present a lecture and a special screening of a 50 minute documentary filmed on location in Ireland. This film is being presented as part of the Irish Reels Film Festival (March 12-14), a forum for features, shorts, and documentaries by independent Irish filmmakers. Historic Masonry Technical Workshop in Astoria, Oregon Presented by APT Northwest Chapter (Saturday, March 13, 9:00 am  to 4:00 pm)

Final reminder that your APT Northwest Chapter is hosting an Historic Masonry Technical Workshop on Saturday, March 13, 2010 in Astoria, Oregon. If you have not been to Astoria this is a real treat to get to visit this small Oregon historic town on the Columbia River Gorge and the Oregon coast; about an hour west of Portland. The workshop is THIS SATURDAY and there is an excellent line up of speakers!

“How-to” Demonstration – Plaster work (Saturday, March 13, 10:00 am to Noon)

Historic Seattle’s “Preserving Your Old House” program uses Washington Hall (153 14^th Ave, Seattle) as a “get dirty” space to demonstrate how to repair plaster work, refinish wood work and paint, and repair windows. On March 13, Historic Seattle presents Steve Irish of Lux Interiors, who has undertaken plaster repair and plaster restoration in the Seattle area for twenty years and is an expert on repairing lath and plaster in older buildings. During this overview, he will cover a variety of plaster issues, such as cracks, holes, veneer de-lamination, damaged moldings, texture matches and re-plastering from the studs up.
